It is with great pleasure that V.M.21 arte contemporanea presents
Cosmic Love, an exhibition of the latest works of the all-female
art duo, goldiechiari.
Illuminated only by the light of the works themselves (the gallery
remaining otherwise in complete darkness), the exhibition commences
in the first room of the gallery with a light box installation
- Cosmic Love#1 – based on a transparent cock ring apparently
floating in space. The second room of the gallery is dedicated
to a Cosmic Love, an intergalactic video journey through an imaginary
cosmogony of brightly coloured planets, constellations and stars.
As the video slowly zooms in on the artificially simulated planets,
the final sequence provides a view of the whole system of planets
and reveals the origins of the objects.
“Outer space is a pleasant place
A place where you can be free
There’s no limit to the things you can do
Your thought is free and your life is worthwhile
Space is the place”
Sun Ra
The music and the rhythm of the journey suggest that the aim
of the voyage is to discover another cosmos, to cross the borders
of the solar system with a view to reaching a new, imaginary,
sensual dimension: “a visual experience […] that bypasses
verbalized pigeonholing and directly penetrates the subconscious
with an emotional and philosophic content." (Stanley Kubrick)
Oggetti non identificati is composed of a huge luminous sex toy
which occupies almost all of the largest of the gallery’s
rooms. The huge size of this installation is exploited in such
a way as to enable the artists to explore the numerous ways in
which the object may be symbolically perceived, even suggesting
its transposition into an anal or vaginal cavity. However, although
the continuous allusions of the work are both visually and tactually
attractive, no explicit reference is ever made.
Eleonora Chiari and Sara Goldschmied have worked together in
Rome since 1997.
